Every year more than sixteen million Americans suffer from clinical depression. Antidepressant drugs have proven to be a godsend for many sufferers. Yet, while these drugs are commonly prescribed, the initial diagnosis and treatment must be initiated by a physician. Three antidepressant drugs are used for other purposes besides treating depression.
Amitriptyline at low dose is used for fibromyalgia
Trazodone at low dose is used for treatment of insomnia
Bupropion (a.k.a. Wellbutrin or Zyban) is used for smoking cessation.
